SERVICE PROJECTS

Members of HJWC volunteer their services at one of the following Service Projects:

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens

Bayou-Bend-Collection-And-Gardens

Bayou Bend Collection is recognized worldwide as one of the most comprehensive representation of early American fine and decorative arts.  Miss Ima Hogg’s former residence, located on a wide curve on the Buffalo Bayou, created this home museum of historic richness and, together with the surrounding gardens, donated it to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1965.  One of Miss Hogg’s goals was to give all children the opportunity to learn about their Texas and American heritage. Thus, in 1968, a free Family Day was created with HJWC Members proudly serving as guides one Sunday a month from September to May.

HJWC continues to provide funds for Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens’ summer camp, school trips and bus scholarships, and an Accessions Fund to enable Bayou Bend to purchase items for its collections.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston

Ronald-McDonald-House-Charities

Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston (RMHC) first opened in 1981.  Located in the Texas Medical Center, it is a home away from home for families of seriously ill children, providing private guest rooms, fully equipped kitchens, laundry facilities, recreation areas, and more.  HJWC Members can be found with a friendly smile at the welcome desk and providing a nutritious lunch for the families.

HJWC continues to provide funds for the families’ lunch, the shuttle bus, and specific needs including the capital campaign where rooms were added to the House and the kitchen was renovated.

CRAFT PROJECT

Craft

The talented Members of the Craft Project work throughout the year to create unique and quality handcrafted items sold at HJWC’s annual fundraising event. Whether made at group workshops or working on their own projects, Craft Members’ items are sold and have attracted guests, raising a substantial amount for HJWC’s Holiday Happening fundraiser.
