DONATIONS THAT CHANGE THE WORLD
WHAT WE DO
Throughout the year, the women of HJWC give of their time and talents through volunteer service at Bayou Bend Family Day, Houston’s Ronald McDonald House and Texas Children’s Cancer Center at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Dedicated to improving the lives of children.

The talented members of the Craft Project work throughout the year to create unique and beautiful handcrafted items sold at the annual fundraising event, HOLIDAY HAPPENING.
Since 1983, HWJC has held their HOLIDAY HAPPENING luncheon and through its success has raised and donated in excess of $6,100,000 to Bayou Bend, Houston’s Ronald McDonald House, Texas Children’s Cancer Center at TCH, and many additional children’s non-profit organizations. With the support of its members and friends in the community, Houston Junior Woman’s Club, with helping hands and caring hearts, will continue providing assistance to the children of Houston and the surrounding areas through dedicated volunteer service and fundraising efforts.

Charitable Contributions - To date, we have raised and given away almost $7 million. Over the years, we have helped fund:
- Summer History Camps at Bayou Bend, school tours and bus scholarships, and enhanced family programming every year. We also established an Accessions Endowment Fund at Bayou Bend that is currently worth about $180,000 (I will check with Bonnie Campbell), in addition to the artifacts that have been acquired through our donations.
- Thursday lunches for families at Ronald McDonald House. We have also bought vehicles (only the van remains now) that transport families to and from the medical center. We also contributed $150,000 to RMH’s Capital Fund Campaign when they added more rooms to the Holcombe House. We have also helped with some improvements to the House.
- Various Research Fellowships at Texas Children’s Hospital. These research mainly focus on children’s cancer.
- Support of horses at Camp For All. Riding horses is one of the most popular activities at Camp For All.
- Arts in Medicine and other programs of The Periwinkle Foundation
- Food, furniture, appliance and other needs of the Boys and Girls’ Country
- Specialized materials and equipment for the Texas Hearing Institute
- Special Needs Project of the Child Advocate
- Furniture, appliance and other needs of Gracewood
- Program sponsorships and other needs at various schools.
